Texas police are searching for a suspect who was caught on camera swiping a ring from the finger of a deceased woman lying in an open casket.
Surveillance video courtesy of KOSA shows an unknown woman reaching into 88-year-old Louis Hicks’ casket and taking her ring.
The suspect reportedly tore off part of Hicks’ skin while trying to remove the jewelry, according to the Odessa American. Val McKee, Hick’s daughter, said she and other family members had just left Sunset Funeral Home.
Allegedly, an unknown woman had been “looking for the restroom” at that point, but she took more than a hand towel on that trip.
Local police posted a video of the thief to its Facebook page. The suspect is described as a heavy-set woman wearing a brown long-sleeved sweater, black sweat pants and black sandals.
Funeral home manager Billie Vallie, said the security footage also captured images of the suspects car and license plate. At this point, there are no suspects in the case, but we’re hoping that will change.
