It’s not easy being the youngest in a family of nine. Yolanda was the youngest of her parents’ seven children, but her parents from San Antonio, Texas worked every day to ensure that not one of their kids went without. Her father, Frank, who was a head waiter at Jacala, a Mexican restaurant in the West End, worked day and night to provide for his family.
Yolanda grew up with a healthy appreciation for the power of education and after a rough start was eventually accepted at the University of Texas. She eventually transferred to Palo Alto College where she studied to become a registered nurse. Finally, after years of study, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. But she’d received something else while at college: an obsession with losing weight…
