A tiny dog named Dougie was dumped on the street after his owner didn’t want to take care of his leg injury or treat his skin condition (mange).
The drove around chasing the dog and threw food in his direction in an attempt to lure him closer. Rescuers approached with caution as it was clear the dog was frightened and probably hadn’t been treated nicely by people in a while.
Soon the dog was eating the food given to him, but his belly was so small, he couldn’t hold that much food. “Dougie’s stomach is small, so he was full after eating just one hamburger patty,” the rescue wrote.
Founder of Hope For Paws, Eldad Hagar sat there for more than two hours trying to gain Dougie’s trust, but said, “since most abusers are men, it makes my job of earning trust more difficult.”
Hagar saw an older woman walking down the street, so he decided to ask her to help him. “What I wasn’t able to do in two hours, she did in less than ten minutes,” Hagar said.
Finally, he got Dougie in the car and told him, “He wasted two hours because I knew how this video would end anyways.” Dougie went to the vet to receive medical care, and once he got a clean bill of health, he was adopted by loving owners.
