A newly married couple will have a story to tell their grandchildren after their wedding day was saved by the volunteer fire department.
The couple had just said “I do” when they discovered the trolley bus that was supposed to take them to their reception had caught fire, according to wreg.com news.
The Avon Volunteer Fire Department wrote on their Facebook page on Saturday: “This afternoon, the AVFD was dispatched to West Avon Congregational Church for a bus fire. On arrival, crews found a trolley bus with an engine compartment fire. It was knocked down by a fire extinguisher the bus driver had.”
They continued: “On further investigation, we realized the bus was for a wedding party. Our crews offered the bride and groom a ride to their reception in Avon and they graciously accepted. Engine 14 with a crew of four – Lt. Kaswer, Lt. Baldwin, Firefighter Costill, and Firefighter Del Gallo – had the wonderful honor of making sure the happy couple didn’t miss their own party.”
Thankfully for the couple, the kind firefighters stepped up and offered them a lift to their reception, and the happy couple didn’t seem to mind and was smiling the entire way. Facebook users commented on the Avon Volunteer Fire Department’s Facebook page, saying, “Awesome job ! How memorable that will be in the coming years ….. Avon Rocks !”
Another user said, “Hope this helps people to understand that firefighters go to work never knowing what their day will bring. This was a happy one. I am sure they are few and far between. Thank-You for your courage and your kindness stay safe.”
