Doctor Lets 12-Year-Old Deliver Her Baby Brother

Kids don’t always remember the moment they meet their younger siblings, but one Mississippi doctor made sure it was a moment one 12-year-old would remember for the rest of her life.

When Dede Carraway went into labor, her 12-year-old daughter, Jacee Dellapena, was so excited to see her baby brother for the first time. However, she was too short to see into the delivery room and was afraid she’d miss everything. “I started crying because I thought I wasn’t going to get to see him be born, because I was too short,” said Jacee.

“My doctor suggested, ‘Jacee why don’t you suit up and come deliver the baby.’ I was in shock lol! I told her as long as Zack [her husband] doesn’t care, go ahead,” Carraway explained. Jacee quickly suited up and Dr. Wolfe guided her through the entire delivery.

Having Jacee deliver the baby wasn’t part of Dede’s plan, but looking down and seeing her daughter delivering baby Cayson helped her get through the pain after the epidural didn’t work. “Seeing the emotions on her face, it made me cry. I’m about to cry now! It was just a good moment for me,” Dede said.

“I was nervous that I was gonna mess up or tear her or something, but it was the best moment of my life,” said Jacee. “I actually, like delivered him, like, he let me actually push down and pull the baby out….I was like, wow, like I’ve played fake doctor before, but this is, like, the real thing, this is is the real deal.”

“Dr. Wolfe actually put her hands on the inside of his and allowed her to do the entire delivery,” Dede said. “We were all very emotional and it was like no feeling I’ve ever felt. It’s not every day your eldest child at 12 years old gets to deliver your last child.”
