A bus driver was about to start her final bus route for the Milwaukee County Transit System when she contemplated taking a break.
Something told Denise Wilson to pull over at a gas station and when she did, she heard a child screaming. “It was basically that I wasn’t going to stop, I was just going to keep going,” Wilson told TMJ4 News.
“I looked over from where the sound was coming from and it was him just running up the street hollering,” she continued.
A 5-year-old boy was running towards Wilson because he was lost. “I picked him up because he had little shorts on and no shoes. So, I picked him up and ran across to the gas station. He was crying and I said, ‘It will be ok. Stop crying, stop crying,’” said Wilson.
Someone gave the boy a t-shirt at the gas station and Wilson brought him on the bus and gave him her coat. She also gave him a snack and cranked u the heat while they waited for police. According to police, the little boy left his home in the middle of the night by mistake and made it down the street and up two blocks in 20-degree weather.
“Sometimes God puts us in places where he needs us, and I think a lot of us bus drivers out here seem to always be in the right place,” said Wilson.
